Filmed in Australia, for her latest single “Lights Out,” British R&B singer Estelle and Denzell Williams co-directed the visual. The slow grooving track drips with romance, flirtation, and summer vibes— and the artsy visual matches that energy perfectly. Estelle released her fifth studio album Lovers Rock back in September and along with two previously released singles “Better” and “Love Like Ours” with Tarrus Riley, “Lights Out” is featured on the record.
The singer recently caught up with Ebony to discuss on her latest effort the importance of showcasing her roots. Born to a father from Grenada and a mother from Senegal, Estelle was taught a lot about her heritage and her ancestors as she grew up in the UK. Much of her cultural influences on Lovers Rock can be heard by listeners, particularly through her collaboration with dancehall artist Konshens and record producer Maleek Berry.
“They’re all artists who make the music and come from the places from which the music originated,” said Estelle. “I think they’re just as great and amazing as anyone who’s popular with[ the sounds].”
