Since 2017, when she made her debut with the light and airy “Together,” CYN has released pop gems. The 26-year-old has shown her versatility, bouncing effortlessly from the tender balladry of “I’ll Still Have Me” to the rock-adjacent “Terrible Ideas.” She switches it up again on “Holy Roller”— a quirky, sing-along anthem about a particularly brutal infatuation case. “When you lay with me, I felt higher powers, like a holy spirit, all confused about who it should be,” the muses of the pop star.
“I feel like a holy roller, like I’ve joined a cult,” sings CYN on the captivating, dementedly romantic chorus. “I feel like a holy roller and it’s all your fault.” It turns out, literally the lyrics have to be taken.”[ The song] is about somebody’s sacred dedication and blind faith,” she explains. “The lyrics reveal to me the aftermath of a party from the night before but remain serious in their declaration of a cult like devotion.” All the singles of CYN were (very) good, but there’s something special about “Holy Roller.”
