A new song called “Letter To My Godfather” was published yesterday by Pharrell Williams, which he recorded for the latest Netflix documentary The Black Godfather. The doc will concentrate on the legendary entertainment trailblazer Clarence Avant, led by director Reginald Hudlin, and is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 7.
Having played the iconic smash hit “Happy” for the Despicable Me film, as well as several songs on Theodore Melfi’s Hidden Figures, Pharrell is no stranger to contributing to soundtracks. Pharell’s new song strongly follows the documentary’s theme-which will include interviews from a slew of well-known names including Barack Obama, Lionel Richie, Snoop Dogg, Diddy and many more.
By using a nice quantity of auto-tune, Pharell mixes stuff up on the track. The album opens with an intro-esque Kanye West “Blood On The Leaves” and develops into a song designed to pay ode to The Godfather, which is slowly upbeat but contemplative. Pharrell uses the development and lyrics of his Neptune partner Chad Hugo.
