The cover of the album for $ uicideboy$ and the Live Fast Die Whenever by Travis Barker signals a hellish ride in satanic imagery, filtered but not bathing. It is therefore fair to expect a dark journey throughout the six-track runtime of the brief project. In the opening moments, a high-intensity tone is struck as a childish vocal sample gives way to screams that could score an Inferno stage of Dante. Eventually the $ uicideboy$ signature sound kicks in; if you’re wary of the heavier metal elements, be assured that the project is grounded in the dark New Orleans rap signature sound.
Nevertheless, should you be careful about “rap-rock,” there are elements of the subgenre that can be found here. That is actually part of the package when Travis Barker from Korn’s Munky and Blink 182 enter the equation. The presence of the latter is most strongly felt on the “nothingleftnothingleft” closing track, pairing shrieking vocals with a pulsating drumline, making it difficult to listen to those uncomfortable with the heavier elements. There are still lots of charms to be found throughout, niche though it may be this EP.
