Fortunately, “I Wanna Rock” from G-Eazy is not a hybrid rap-rock take on the classic song. Instead, it’s a dark and energetic single laced by Boi-1da who lovingly flips the sample from the scathing D12 diss “Malcolm X” from Royce Da 5’9. Arriving complete with some fresh visuals, Young Gerald and Gunna’s latest welcome haters to feed off their own misery, as it’s not about to leave either group fazed. “I’m not following trends I’m just following tens,” G-Eazy boasts, while his straight-jacket video counterpart ogles a nurse for asylum. “Still the club’s white boy who can’t get Milly Rock,” he rapes, twisting his appeal to crossover. “I’ve made a million off of pop yet the same thing.”
To close it, Gunna floats through, adding a touch of class to the fold. Surrounded by softly clad women and far from the grungy madhouse theme, the national treasure of hip-hop whips up a smooth flow with its subdued frequency signature brand. Save Gunna at all costs and give him more of this nature’s dark music, please. What do you think?
