Several months ago, Valee raised his reclusive head in the game, and one red Chihuahua later. The G.O.O.D. Music rapper has come through with a surprise release today, falling off the Runnin ‘ Rich EP, a short holdover until the studio album finally surfaces. In fact, the project is too young to evaluate a highlight, but the gravitational pull is undeniable when Chase The Money is engaged. In blessing Valee with something tailor-made for his delivery, the increasing producer does good job, complimenting the drowzy bars with the airy, limbo-esque manufacturing of “Sleep Number.”
Although Valee’s music is, to be sure, an acquired taste, many have become fond of his delivery in the Yachty style, stringing together fast bars with the urgency of a sloth on edibles. The atmosphere is definitely efficient, and without wavering from its basic components, Valee has come so far. Throw in Vic Mensa’s melodic verse, the polar opposite when it comes to stylistic versatility, and “Sleep Number” makes this Tuesday surprise an fascinating closing track.
