No one seems to ever know when Earl Sweatshirt is going to appear. A legitimate rap enigma, Earl will disappear at a time for years and then appear in unexpected places with guest verses. He came back with the new album Some Rap Songs from a long quiet period last year. And in the last few months, the Alchemist and Stoney Willis have also made guest appearances on tracks. Earl had nothing to do with Igor, his old friend and colleague Tyler’s new album, The Creator. But Earl has now appeared on the Detroit rapper ZeelooperZ’s new song. With this guy, you just never know.
The mixtape Dyn-o-mite was released recently by ZeelooperZ, a longtime Danny Brown collaborator and a member of Brown’s Bruiser Brigade crew, and Earl is the only guest on it. On “Easter Sunday 97,” the Detroit producer Black Noi$e’s ZeelooperZ and Earl trade verses on a sunny, soul-sampling beat. It’s a fast two-minute song that doesn’t have a hook, but both get some delightful lines off. ZeelooperZ: “When my mom hears this, I know she feels like this / Her son makes her feel good like photosynthesis.” (Is ZeelooperZ’s mother… is she a plant?) Earl: “Get lost, savoring thoughts, don’t take it as a loss / Octavia: a strange future like niggas thought.”
In the video, both rap in the sun, directed by Realest Photographer Ever, ZeelooperZ and Earl, picture-in-picture appearing during verses of each other. Earl seems so happy. Look at it below.
