The resume of Honorable C.N.O.T.E speaks for itself. With production credits ranging from his litter pick to the upper echelon, when it dropped in February, it’s a wonder that “The Pledge” didn’t get more attention. The music video, for starters, marked the beginning of C.N.O.T.E’s foray into a different form of songwriting-the likes of which Sonny Digital proved hard to break into.
Although it’s not clearly stated in the song or video, “The Pledge” very much communicates a desire to stay in touch with the Michigan state, where he grew up in a community that lacked diversity under particularly difficult circumstances.
Nonetheless, despite the discomfort, C.N.O.T.E clearly appreciates the wonder years. In Honorable C.N.O.T.E’s upcoming solo venture, tentatively titled Signs, “The Pledge” has a spot reserved for it. Otherwise, C.N.O.T.E has kept busy with a number of high-profile placements, including “NCAA” by 2 Chainz and his long-time conspirator Gucci Mane “Just Like It.”
