ALBUM: Beast Coast - Escape From New York

Days ago, a series of teasers were released by the Beast Coast collective, giving fans a taste of what to expect from their latest effort, Escape From New York. The artists ‘ hip hop tribe is made up of members from Flatbush Zombies, Pro Era, and the Underachievers, creating a lyrical fire attack of 10 people. Large collectives aren’t new to hip hop, but by cleverly intertwining R&B, Reggae, and rap, Beast Coast sets itself apart into one fire record.

The unity of these artists on Escape From New York is apparent, but their individuality is not taken away. Each member is making room for the other as each artist is showcasing their talent and shining. For these rappers, though, it’s more than just music. “I want to be next to these nas to learn sht for life, not even for music,” Kirk Knight told Complex recently. “I can ask Meech[ Darko] about other sht; I can chill with his crib and eat jerk chicken. I’m really with the Underachievers when I go to Cali and I’m smoking my weeds. I’m really with my na Issa[ Gold]. That’s my twin really.

That’s probably why it’s not been so long for the music, “he added.” This is much more than just making songs together at the end of the day.
