Hasbro acquired Entertainment One for $ 4.1 billion and now has the entire Death Row catalog they have.
Just in case you think 2019 can’t get weird, the Hasbro toy company, which is responsible for classic toys like Mr. Potato Head, Monopoly, and many more, now own the Death Row catalog. Yes, you read that correctly. The toy company now has a catalog consisting of notes from Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Tupac, and many others – records that have been sold millions upon millions. Strange to think about Hasbro, which is synonymous with childhood innocence, now has one of the most gangster labels in music history.
Now, you might be wondering how this all happened. Per Rolling Stone, Hasbro bought Entertainment One for $ 4 billion. Entertainment One is a general multimedia company that has some of the largest franchises among children such as Peppa Pig and PJ Masker. However, Entertainment One is also a leading hip-hop label that works with almost everyone in the industry. A few years ago, in 2013, the music label itself dropped $ 280 million to obtain the Death Row catalog after the label itself went bankrupt in 2006.
Interestingly enough, it looks like CEO Hasbro is not fully aware of all that he gets with the purchase of Entertainment One worth $ 4 billion. “The acquisition of eOne adds a global family brand led by a beloved story that delivers strong operating results to Hasbro’s portfolio and provides a pipeline for the creation of a new brand driven by family-oriented storytelling,” he said.
We don’t need to describe Suge Knight as family oriented, but maybe it’s just us.
