Missy Elliott Releases First Project In 14 Years With “Iconology” EP

Fourteen years after her platinum record The Cookbook was released by Missy Elliott, the music veteran surprised fans with an EP called Iconology. The album is properly appointed as Missy is an industry icon, and her five-track project arrives just in time for Missy to be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award on Monday at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Iconology may be a short project about 14 minutes in, but as an artist, Missy can still show off her adroitness. The EP opens with “Throw It Back” and “Cool Off,” two songs that have been provided as club tracks to get people on their feet. “DripDemeanor,” featuring Sum1, is a R&B jam where Missy sings intimate love, sex, and everything. The last two tracks are one and the same, “Why I Love You,” except that Missy provides fans an extra version of the acapella. She sings her way through her feelings on that song as Missy contemplates why she keeps on in her relationship with a partner who is not worth the love she gives. Let us know what you’re thinking.
