It has been 30 years since Missy Elliott took her first step into the music industry by forming an R&B group called Fayze. His early days were spent collaborating with other artists such as Ginuwine, Playa, Magoo, Jodeci, Aaliyah, and Tweets before he finally found a star with a classic record of his escape Supa Dupa Fly.
What followed was a series of hit singles, platinum notes, and dance moves and music videos that had inspired generations of artists. It’s been 14 years since fans received new songs from 48-year-old innovators, and this morning he broke that record. Missy released five songs, EP Iconology four songs, and to celebrate her release, Misdemeanor also brought a new single, “Throw It Back,” along with her music video.
Missy wrote a message on Instagram about Iconology and how honored she has been to share her passion with the world for decades. “This year has been an extraordinary year for me … I am humble and grateful,” he wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for letting me smell the rose. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me! So, I have a SURPRISE for you … let’s continue the celebration at midnight tonight … I’m dropping a collection of new songs! Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music feels good and makes us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa ‘Missy’ Elliott. “
