Before last year, Don Toliver was unknown to many hip-hop and rap fans, but his feature from his highly successful Astroworld album on Travis Scott’s track “Can’t Say” was the test of time. Fans now know how much potential the native of Houston has, drawing comparisons between the rapper and 03 Greedo from Los Angeles, based on their tones alone. The delivery of his “Donny Womack” mixtape came at a perfect time, just before news that the booming star had signed to Cactus Jack, La Flame’s record label, which further cemented Toliver’s name in the scene.
Following the highly acclaimed feature of the rapper on Astroworld, he returned earlier in the month with his single “Best You Had,” and again today to drop a visual to accompany his new single “No Idea.” The beat’s dark trappy vibes are accompanied by the rapper’s effortless flows, as well as a hook and chorus singing in a refreshing falsetto. The track’s overall mood accurately represents the vibes of the artist, and is even sometimes comparable to the likes of the work of La Flame. The visuals see Toliver stumbling through a hazy night, with fragmented jerky shots reflecting his (assumed) jagged night memories.
