Florist – Shadow Bloom

Florist – Shadow Bloom

Emily Sprague has released two really good ambient albums since Florist’s 2017 album If Blue Could Be Happiness and ended up with one of her songs in Beyoncé’s Homecoming concert movie.

Sprague today announces a new Florist album called Emily Alone, and it’s a sparse collection of songs she wrote alone at her new-ish home base in Los Angeles late last year, true to her title. His lead single, “Shadow Bloom,” is soft and thoughtful; the deft picking of Sprague wraps itself around small but meaningful revelations about meeting with simplicity the complexities of life.

“I could have the reasons why / but nothing would do right,” she sings. “Would you even like to know what you’re trying to find in your life?” During our greatest moments of growth and transition, Sprague says that the song “is a meditation on the worldliness and stillness of life. It is an appreciation of what is and not a lingering on what has been or is going to be.

The calm after great pain, peace in the unknown, the darkness to come in and warmly fill the empty spaces within you.” Listen to it next to a video directed by Carley Solether, below.
