After taking to the MTV VMA 2019 red carpet with his pet snake, one of them he claimed had five at home, H.E.R. went on stage with his band to do an unreleased single, “Anti.” The 22-year-old Grammy Award-winning artist opened her performance by standing alone in front of a screen mimicking the appearance of a magazine cover. As she sings, the question “Who decides true beauty?” and “Who are you doing this for?” appear.
Later, his backup singer joined him on stage and some wore T-shirts that supported the message of the song when their clothes read “anti-intimidation,” “anti-racism,” “anti-sexism” and “anti-brutality.” As a singer involved in beautiful harmony, H.E.R. grabbed his guitar and began to tear to pieces, ending his performance with a standing ovation.
