OhGeesy, a rapper from Los Angeles, has a lot to be happy about right now. He recently finished a fantastic tour and is still on a high from the release of his first solo album, GEEZYWORLD, last year. Even being detained for codeine and gun possession while he was moving from show to show couldn’t break his stride. To keep fans interested when his tour is over, he has just released a new song called “Knock Knock.”
“Knock Knock” comes after Geesy’s prior 2022 single, “Up,” and the February release of GEEZYWORLD (Deluxe). I’ve got bad news if you were hoping that this song would signal a change in OhGeesy’s sound. But with a winning formula like the hard-hitting West Coast percussion and bass, the menacing piano lines, and the incessant door-banging sample, it doesn’t matter. It sounds like it belongs on a Shoreline Mafia tape, which Geesy, a group of rap artists from Los Angeles, helped create. The 28-year-old is nonetheless carrying the torch for his city and keeping that sun-drenched bounce alive on playlists even though that Cali sound isn’t the current fad.
It’s a rather easy performance from OhGeesy as far as the lyrical material is concerned. Nothing OhGeesy could say would be more impactful than the resonating bass on this homicidal and raucous music. Geesy dons a mask and rides with his companions through the city’s nightlife in the song’s glittering music video.
