Don’t be twisted, Young Thug is good with bars. If you need further reassurance, listen to the ten wildest verses here. On that note, many were immediately attracted by Thug and J. Cole’s creative partnership, who held him as executive producer of So Much Fun. Today, Thugger talks with Big Boy for one of, if not the best interviews of his career, taking the time to detail his experiences both working with and relating to J. Cole
“Through the grapevine, I heard he liked my music,” Thugger explained, starting around 15 minutes. “So we ended up going on tour. We were with each other every day. He was one of those people who didn’t want to rub anyone the wrong way. He wouldn’t be there. The first week of the tour, he would go on stage and go straight go home. He took his wife and children with him. “As he related it, Thug also learned lessons during the KOD Tour, which is basically the same as staying humble. “This is a very very very very important learning experience,” he said. “He’s the biggest artist, this is his concert, but he’s still open – that shit just calms me down, like ‘you’re not too superstar, come down. He gets more money than you!'”
Thug also spilled beans about Kill Edward which was hard to understand, clearly impressed that Cole was willing to open his own tour as Kill Edward. “Once I see that it’s okay. We start talking, I might catch him before he goes on stage, like ‘you need to be connected.’ We won’t make this awkward, we have to be connected. He leaves the stage, we are in his room. “Big Boy wondered what eventually attracted Cole to Thugger on a creative level, triggering an interesting response from Jeffery.
“I don’t think it’s about the music,” Thug said. “It ended about music. I think he saw how pure and natural I looked. When I surrounded him, it was like ‘this song here, this video here’ – he would show me a video on YouTube from me being cold with children my son. That made me realize, that wasn’t the music that he really was with. He tried to find honesty … He saw me as a person, as a free person. It made him start paying attention to my music. “He started listening to old music from 2008, 2009, then he likes’ You have to go back to the lyrics. You will put out music and have too much fun and play. “
Even though Young Thug finally didn’t think he changed his style too drastically on So Much Fun, it’s hard to argue that he sounds as sharp as he ever had in his biggest release so far. Even though it might be an unexpected couple, it turns out Cole and Thugger are a good match, and we can only hope that the partnership continues to move forward.
