The City Girls absolutely blown up in the last year. The girl group consisting of Yung Miami and JT know how to connect with their audience and over the past twelve months they have built a cult-like fanbase. For the duo, songs like “Act Up” were ultra-successful and when it was revealed that Lil Yachty actually wrote a lot of the song, its popularity continued to rise. The track, which is the anthem of a bad girl, has been officially given a new video starting with Boat, introducing the Spring Break anthem as a song that has driven women wild.
Much of the reason the track blew up has to do with the Quality Control duo’s accompanying challenge. They asked their biggest fans to send their own singing and dancing videos to “Act Up,” which helped the official video directors out with content for the end result. The finished product contains a mix of footage sent in by fans, stretching down the street shots from Yung Miami, and Lil Yachty’s comic relief. At one point, Yachty, who serves as an on-set news reporter, assumes the role of a vocal coach as he trains one of the girls to deliver their hard-hitting lyrics, playing off the fact that he wrote the song actually. “If I were a woman, I’d say it that way,” says Lil Boat in a skit in the middle of the video.
